Francis (Frank) H. K. Chen, PhD
Dr. Frank Chen is a co-founder of Structured Analogy Consultants and a Lecturer in the Department
of Management & Marketing at Oakland University's School of Business.
He was formerly a Principal Researcher with
a Fortune 500 company. For most of his 30 years there, he managed and conducted
engineering research until the year 2000 when he went through a personal
transformation from a technical researcher to an innovation methodology
researcher. In a series of paradigm-changing projects, he initiated research on
applying analogical reasoning methods to business process innovation that led to
the development of a new structured analogical analysis methodology. In the past
nine years, Frank has conducted various analogy workshops that range in size
from a single individual executive to cross-functional teams of 30-40 managers
of various levels. His work has led to the rethinking of product development
processes and the adoption of ideas that led to paradigm-changing organizational
structures. Frank was born in China and
grew up in Hong Kong. He has earned BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in the United
States from Lafayette College and the University of Illinois.
